Máethorel is a mouthful, I know - its crafted using one of J. R. R.
Tolkien's elvish languages, Sindarin! I and those around me have come pronounce it /ˈmɛ͡ɪ-θɔːr-ˌɛl/,
though by my current understanding /ˈmaːɛ-θɔr-ˌɛl/ or /ˈma͡ɛ-θɔr-ˌɛl/
would be more accurate. I love to read, so this is a bit of a nod to
the man many consider to be the grandfather of high fantasy; one of my
favourite genres. Currently, though, my top author would be Brandon
Sanderson - the man continues to impress in ways I can't quite
fathom. That said, I'm not just a fiction fanatic: learning new
things is always exciting, and I particularly enjoy history,
mythology, and linguistics. I think it's critical that we as
humans seek to never stop learning, though to be perfectly honest not
nearly as much of it sticks as I would like.
Most of my
online content comes in the form of Minecraft, wherein my favourite
thing to build is castles. I'm not quick, nor particularly
talented, but I love what I do, particularly when I get to involve
other lovely folks via SMP play or live streams. I also build a fair
number of spaceships, albiet in a different game - Empyrion
- and enjoy some chaos with friends from time to time in FPS or
party-style games. Additionally, you'll occasionally find me
doing a bit of singing or other musical pursuits, though once again
with no claims of skill.
If I'm not engaged reading,
gaming, or making music, I also enjoy building with LEGO (including
digitally via Stud.io) and riding motorcycles. I like to create things with my hands and
get to do that often in my role as production engineer for a local
performance company - whether its building physical sets and props or
digitally refining AVL, its always a pleasure to be given the chance
to add to whatever's happening on stage. I'm a fan of
old-school Star Wars, and I'll even admit to liking a few of the
newer bits as well. I think I'd fit well with the familial nature
of the Mandalorians (Aliit ori'shya tal'din!), and I'm
a Hufflepuff and Edgedancer, but really feel I'd have had just as
good a shot in Gryffindor and with the Windrunners - the notion of
chivalry is pretty strong therein, and I'm a fan of that.
I
believe strongly in giving respect and love freely, in the continual
pursuit of self-betterment, and the importance of good communication.
We are not meant to walk this life alone, and the pursuit of stronger,
more considerate and selfless relationships with those around us is of
paramount importance. I'm far from a perfect man, with many
mistakes I've yet to atone for and many more yet to come - but
the most important step a man can take is always the next one, and I
strive to walk that path every day.
